An impressive entry from Syls in U13 to U16 Football for 2009 - Division 1 Status in all grades and strong second teams entered, U16 Div3 (not bad for a B team), U15 Div4, U14 Div7, U13 Div 8 grading.
We have actually made a figure of ¤ 1050 to send to the charity Steppingstones which is great as our target was ¤ 1000. We will send on a cheque to them today. It is possible that there may also be some late donations which can be sent on at a later stage. The two Friday nights were very successful in the Club. Friday 19th December and Friday 26th December. Thanks should go to Sylvesters GAA, Gibneys, and the leaving cert students from Gael Colaiste Reachrann & Portmarnock who sold the tickets. Thanks should go to the bar management, Declan, Gary Penrose, and the bar staff who were so helpful on both nights. We would also like to thank the musicians, singers, and all who came along to support the event on both nights. We also want to thank everyone who gave very generous spot prizes for the raffle on both nights. Because no one involved in the event looked for expenses we were able to make the maximum for the charity. Go raibh mile maith agaibh gach duine.Le meas,Aisling, Ann & Eddie Ó Mórdha

Lester Ryan, Leinster Projects Officer is responsible for managing this project. Planning for the league will begin in early January. Lester, will have further details at that stage. Last year we had 112 clubs participate. We would hope to build on this number in 2009. In this regard we’d appreciate if all counties would give Lester their full cooperation and support throughout the rollout of the competition.

Many thanks to Ernie Brenner of the Grand Hotel and Suzanne Byrne of the Arena Fitness Centre for donating top of the range gym equipment which was surplus to their requirements. This will be set up in Broomfield in the new year and will be of great benefit to all our adult players, but especially those recovering from injury who may not be fit enough for a full outdoor session. Plans are in hand to have it up and ready for use in the new year. Thanks also to Paul Clarke of Genmar Transport, Baldoyle Industrial Estate, for moving the equipment and temporarily storing it for us. John McCann gave us the lead to the equipment and Aidan Mahon gave professional advice. Mick Stuart
DUBLIN will field a mixture of the under-21 panel and players who defeated Offaly for the O'Byrne Cup quarter-final against Wicklow in Parnell Park this Sunday (2.0). The starting 15 for Sunday's clash, which will be managed by U21 boss Jim Gavin, contains five players who featured the over Offaly in OConnor Park. The five included from last weekend are Gary O'Connell, Darren Daly, Declan Lally, Declan OMahony and John OBrien. Derek Byrne, one of the players who showed up very well against Offaly has been included among the subs. A few of our lads saw in the new year with action on the field.Down in Kilbarrack, Brian Sexton looked very comfortable at wing back on the Blue Stars team, played the full game and was as good as any on view, The Blue Stars lost on penalties after a pretty decent second half on Pat Gilroys first day in charge.Anto Daly also made his management debut where the Dubs Stars lost by a point to Dublin in the hurling. The highlight was a cheeky goal by Dotsie O'Callaghan and the Dub Stars almost equalising in the end.Out on the coast Syls Team managers also palyed a draw with their Malahide United counterparts but this time we won on penalties.Eamon Scott and Bernard Boran supplied a few photos.

There was a great turnout again this morning for the annual St Stephens Day hurling. Lively enough affair from start to finish, testament to the high level of fitness we have attained in football and hurling this year.Pat Keogh and Tony Cooney made cameo appearances in the second half, jealous of the progress being made at full forward by the evergreen Leonard O'Carroll - what did you score Lenny, 3 goals!! Keogh, in a fetching green shirt(with matching Levis jeans and Wexford sox), wandered to mid field to get involved - Cooney hung around the square in true paocher fashion.Paudie ref'ed but was giving off that Ciaran Murray refused to leave the field after being dismissed - I couldn't keep up with the plot but some of the lads suggested Paudie should leave. Two Cleere's, Airy and Russy, both looked classy, Airy in a Spiderman style outfit. Anto Daly might fancy Russy if he ever gets to see him.Hillary handed over to Derek Morris in Goals for the blues - he had no problems except from Lenny. Anthony Dunne looked comfortable in goals at the other end.Maybe Danny or Colm would send me a few snippits
Pat Keogh and Anthony Cooney - couldn't entice Noel Falvey to join them
The Corkpeoples Support Group at St Sylvesters text'ed to wish us all well for the Christmas but then proceeded to remind us of the hard times facing us in 2009.Firstly he blamed the Dubs for saving the Banks while we left Cork Hurling in the lurch - shur, doesn't he know we would have buried that bloody song long ago if we had our way!!Then he slags us off for having no influence down Marino way - he could have something here - not alone do we have nobody on the Dublin Senior squad of 45 but we only have one player, Dominic McDonnell, named on the U21 squad. Gan doubt, we are missing something . . . and I don't think it is on the field of play.
After 6 and 4 years managing and coaching our Senior Footballers, John Sexton and Dave Super Ryan have decided to take a break for a short while. Under their direction Sylvesters have risen from division 2 mediocrity to being one of the top, and soon to be TOP, teams in Dublin and beyond, winning Div2, St Vincent de Paul, Senior B Championship and topping Division 1 of the League (I still believe we won the League!!). John and Dave deserve our sincerest gratitude for their enormous commitment and contribution to St Sylvesters and we will benefit from their efforts for many years to come. Best of luck to Gabrial Bannigan, also on the management team for the last few years, who takes over as Senior Football Manager - you have big shoes to fill and we are all firmly behind you.
