The 2008-09 year has kicked off at last.
We were delighted to welcome the many new members who joined the club tonight. Their enthusiasm was tangible as many of them were there well in advance of start time.
There was a great buzz about the room as everyone, existing and new members, chatted and started getting to know eachother. After the necessary task of registration was over we had the judging of the Summer project, which was on the theme of "Numbers". There was a very good entry of 15 panels this year, and the variety of images on the theme was vast. The winners were decided by members votes.
The prize for the best individual image went to Pete Bedell for his image of pedestrians waiting to cross the road in the city centre where the traffic lights have a countdown display to crossing time. I think what made this image was all the different expressions on the people's faces. Well done Pete.
The prize for the best panel went to Harry Reynolds. Harry's panel was a series of close-up and macro shots of items containing numbers e.g fob watch, lens filters, combination lock etc. All well composed and well lit. Well done Harry.
Next week we look forward to welcoming more new members as well as those who could not make the first night back.
The meeting will consist of an induction session explaining the workings of the club to new members and the changes made to competitions and other items from last year - something for all. This will be followed by a "Show and Tell" session in groups. Bring one of your favourite images (taken by you) and talk about why you like it and any story that's behind it. This will be done in mixed groups of novices, inters and advanced members and will be educational for all and will allow for a little more "getting to know you".
See you all next week,
Peter
