How to solarize an image (quickly) in Photoshop.

Solarisation in Photography is when the image recorded on a negative or print is (wholly or partially) reversed in tone. Dark areas appear light and vice versa.

This article covers the reproduction of that effect digitally.

1) Open your image in Photoshop

2) Open the curves tool. Click Image > Adjustments > Curves or use the keyboard combination Ctrl + M

3) Select the pencil in the curves dialog box. This allows you to make arbitary adjustments to the curves map.

4) Click on the bottom left of the curves window.

5) Hold the shift key down on your keyboard and click the top centre of the curves window.

6) Keeping the shift key down, click the bottom left of the curves window to create an inverted V shaped map.

7) Click OK and you now have a solarized image.
