Brrrrrrrrrr!!!!! It was bloody freezing and very windy at Ardgillan Demesne on Saturday 19th April. Despite the weather, 14 brave souls turned up for the event. The weather did not daunt the intrepid photographers and they took up the challenge with gusto! The big difference this year was the levelling of the playing field as everyone, novice, intermediate and advanced, was given a disposable camera with a 27-shot roll of film to take their images. This made it a challenge in the true sense of the word.
As the light was very poor and the sky very grey, the emphasis had to be on interesting subject matter and good composition. The 2-hour session ended with a much-needed visit to the tea-rooms to warm the cockles again! The panels, of 24 images each, were mounted at the club on the following Thursday and they were judged by Harry Reynolds, who was unable to attend the outing. Harry gave every panel intense scrutiny and awarded the best single image to Peter Barriscale and the best panel to Patricia Ronan. They each received a nice bottle of wine for their efforts. Everyone who was there enjoyed themselves despite the conditions and the change of format made it very interesting and different. This has always been a popular event and I'm sure it will continue to be so in the future. We'll just have to book better weather for next year's event! |
