Monthly League Format for Club Year 2026-27

There are 4 Sections in Malahide Camera Club for the purposes of judging:

● Novice
● Intermediate
● Advanced
● Advanced Plus

Competition Rules

● 6 Competition Rounds in the Monthly League

● 4 Rounds will be printed, and 2 Rounds will be projected images.

● 2 rounds will be colour print, 2 rounds will be mono print, and 1 round will be mono projected image

and 1 round will be colour projected image.

● Two sections in each round: Theme and Open

Members may submit 3 images for each round – 1 Theme and 2 Open.

Only 1 theme image can be entered in each round. All 3 images will be scored out of 50

● Only the higher scoring Open image will count for the league

● From the 6 rounds the lowest scoring Open and lowest scoring Theme scores will be discounted

In summary, out of the 6 rounds the 5 highest scoring Open images and 5 highest scoring Theme images will be counted. This would give a possible maximum score of 50 x 10 images = 500 points.

Novice, Intermediate, Advanced and Advanced Plus sections are judged separately.

Images may only be entered once in the Monthly League competition; new images are required for each round of the league and images must not have been entered in any previous years’ monthly league competitions. Closely similar images to those previously submitted are not permitted.

Final decision on whether two or more images are similar will lie entirely with the Competition Secretary. Guest Judges will rank images for league points and their decisions are final.

● Competition rules and requirements will be emailed to members ahead of each round of competition.

● All entries, both theme and open, must be in the correct format for that round. Any entry that does not conform to the brief or

competition rules in Malahide Camera Club’s handbook may not be forwarded to the judge

● Images for all rounds must be uploaded to your Pixoroo page. Images should be sRGB, saved as JPG and at least 1920 pixels wide or at least 1200 pixels high. Pixoroo is used by the Competition Secretary to create lists for judges and spreadsheets for competition records.

Advanced Plus League - Background

Over time the Advanced League had become extremely large. To tackle this issue, the committee decided to divide the Advanced group into two equal parts with the eventual target to create an Advanced Plus League.

To prevent the new league from growing too large over time, numbers in the Advanced Plus group will be managed each year. For the first year of the league, 2026–2027, this number has been set at 16. The committee may increase or reduce this number in future years, depending on how the league develops.

All photographers in Advanced and Advanced Plus groups will be designated as Advanced photographers.

Initial Qualification

The first 16 members qualified for the Advanced Plus League during the 2025–26 season. These members were the top eight from each of the Advanced Blue and Advanced Green leagues, which were set up for this purpose.

Maintaining League Numbers

The aim is to keep both the Advanced and Advanced Plus leagues competitive and manageable. To keep both leagues at manageable numbers, and to allow members the opportunity to be promoted, it may be necessary to demote members from the Advanced Plus League to the Advanced League at the end of each season.

Demotion Rules

1. Any member who does not submit the minimum number of required entries for the league will be demoted. For the 2026–27 season, the minimum requirement is five Open images and five Theme images.

2. Any member who asks to leave the Advanced Plus League will be removed from the league.

3. If further places are needed, up to two members in the lowest positions in the Advanced Plus League may be demoted. This will depend on:

a. the designated number of members agreed by the committee for the Advanced Plus League; and

b. the number of members demoted or removed under the first two rules.

Promotion to the Advanced Plus League Promotion to the Advanced Plus League will depend on the designated league size and the number of places available at the end of each season through demotions or resignations. If places available, they will be offered to the leading member or members of the Advanced League.

Pixoroo Platform

The club uses the Pixoroo to manage the monthly competitions. All members of the club who wish to take part in competitions will need accounts set up on the Pixoroo platform. When uploading images for competitions the image file should be named with the title of the image as you want it presented to the judge. Please check and correct any errors the Pixoroo system raises in relation to your image (e.g. size, resolution, colour space). Entries for print competitions also need to be uploaded or the image(s) will not be entered.

Print Images

Print entries must not be larger than 12”x16” and must be mounted on 16”x 20” mount boards (you will be advised when these can be ordered from the club).

Print entries must have club labels attached on the back of the image (top left-hand corner).

● IMPORTANT – It is mandatory to upload a digital copy of your image to Pixoroo, as without it will not be possible to score your images.

● All entries must be submitted on or before the date advised for the competition. Members will be advised of the collection date in advance.

● Print entries will be collected on the appropriate Club night.

Projected Images

Projected Image Competitions entries must be submitted by midnight on the Thursday of submission, via your Pixoroo page.

● Monochrome images cannot be entered into colour competitions and vice versa.

● As regards the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) generated images, the Club will adhere to the guidance and rules prevailing in the IPF at the time.

Any objection to an image after judging should only be made in writing to the Club Competition Secretary within one week of judging night. The complaint will be investigated by the committee and if found valid the appropriate action will be determined by the Malahide Camera Club Committee.
